Ass. Prof. Şuhnaz Yılmaz Özbagci

Şuhnaz Yılmaz is an Associate Professor of International Relations at Koc University. She is the director of the foreign policy group of the Center for Globalization and Democratic Governance (GLODEM). She also served as the Associate Director of the Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities.

She received her MA and Ph.D. from Princeton University specializing on International Affairs and the Middle East.  She conducted her post-Doctoral Studies at Harvard University. Her areas of interest and expertise include foreign policy analysis, Turkish foreign policy, Turkish-American Relations, Eurasian Politics, Energy and Natural Resource Politics, Mediterranean cooperation and security, European Union Foreign and Security Policy.

She has numerous publications in journals such as Political Science Quarterly, Middle East Journal, World Today, Middle Eastern Studies, Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies and Turkish Studies.  She has recently published a book on Turkish-American Relations entitled Turkish-American Relations (1800-1952): Between the Stars, Stripes and the Crescent (2015)from Routledge Press International Relations Series.

In 2007, Şuhnaz Yilmaz received the Sakip Sabanci International Research Award, granted by Sabanci University and the Brookings Institution and in 2008 she has received the prestigious Distinguished Young Scientist Award (GEBIP) of the Turkish Academy of Sciences. During 2009-2010, she was invited by Stanford University to conduct research on 'Energy Politics in Eurasia.' She was invited to join PONARS Eurasia Network and Harvard University Central Asian and the Caucasus Network.

Moreover, she is a member of International Studies Association, Middle Eastern Studies Association, Junior Chamber International Senate and Germany Meets Turkey: Young Leaders Forum.
