Odea Bank, Member of Executive Committee, Head of Human Ressources


Ms. Figen Karatan graduated from TED Ankara College and studied at Middle East Technical University getting her BSc. degree in Business Administration. She finalized her formal studies at Warwick Business School, UK in 1988, where she got her MBA degree. 

Aiming to pursue her career in banking sector, Figen initially joined The Banks Association of Turkey, External Relations & Training and Publication Department.

Then she joined TurkEximbank as Senior Credit Analyst between 1991-1994, following which she was invited to join Interbank - a commercial bank - to cover corporate clints as a Relations Manager in Ankara Branch until 1996.  

In 1996, she joined Demirbank and took part in the establishment of the subsidiary Banks in the Central Asia, initially in Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan and the Balkan States. She was a member of a senior team of 3 covering feasibility studies to take investment decisions, agreements with multilateral organizations (like IFC and EBRD) for partnership, relationship management with local regulatory bodies, recruitment and other steps for establishing the grounds for the banks to become operative. Her responsibilities expanded to management and Board membership of the subsidiary banks in Central Asia and Europe, focusing on the corporate relationship management & corporate lending, after the establishment of the banks

After HSBC’s acquisition of Demirbank, she took a leading role in the cultural integration projects of HSBC and Demirbank, delivering commercial and retail credit trainings.

As of 2005, she joined HR as Head of Compensation & Reward when she played leading roles in initiating and managing different Human Resources studies, and expanded her responsibilities and acted as Deputy Head of HR till Dec. 2011.

As of April 2012, she has been working as Head of Human Resources in Odea Bank A.Ş., reporting to the CEO, where she played a key role in the establishment of the bank as founding executive team member and Executive Committee Member. 

As a self-fulfilled person, she prefers to live and work with “people orientation” with a clear focus on business and results, in corporate life. She is a single mother of 2 children.
